Why 360 photography, not laser scanning
Laser scanners and LiDAR are precise survey tools, but they struggle where a process plant is shiniest. Polished steel, glass, and insulation cladding scatter the laser, so the point cloud drops out and leaves gaps on the equipment you most want to see. 360 photography captures complete, true-colour visual coverage of those reflective surfaces, it is faster and lighter to deliver, and it can run fully offline. Is the data stored in the cloud?
No. Tours can be delivered air-gapped and hosted on your own network, with no external scripts and no data leaves your perimeter.
How is this different from Matterport or laser scanning?
360 photography captures complete, navigable visual coverage, including the reflective process equipment where laser point clouds drop out. It is faster and lighter, and it can run fully offline. Matterport and most 3D platforms are cloud-only and cannot run air-gapped.
Can it run on an air-gapped network?
Yes. The tour is self-hosted with locally cached tiles and local markers, so it runs with no internet connection.
